Back to school again

by admin on January 31, 2006

Hey,

I know, I know. I should be doing homework. But anyway.

I’m back at school now. I don’t think I’ve written since the day before.

My classes are pretty good. English is going to be really good. It’s the highest junior one and the first lesson we had to write an essay about ‘What is Language?’. Yeah. Try it one day. It’s harder than it sounds.
Home Economics is International Cookery this term, which rocks. Thursday I’m making a Chinese Lemon Chicken. I can’t wait for Italian- I’m making a beautiful looking chicken lasange.

Maths, Soc Ed and Japanese are the same as usual, Japanese great, the other two alright.

The lessons in Science are unbearable. Nebulae. AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! I’m going to change if that’s all it’s about. I oughta take in my assignment from last year. I KNOW THIS STUFF ALREADY AND I HATE IT!!!!!!!! IF IT WAS UNBEARABLE LAST YEAR, HOW BAD IS IT THIS YEAR?? Everyone else is all ‘Uh, is it a bright nebula?’ IT’S AN EMISSION NEBULA!!!!!

I feel mad just thinking about it.

OMG! Tonight. Series return of ‘The OC’. I fully accept that my love of this show is totally laugh worthy material. I do realise that this is a show about a bunch of loaded Californians, running around without a haair out of place. I accept that the storylines are a tad out there. (Last season ended with Marissa shooting Trey, her boyfriend Ryan- the silent, brooding one-‘s brother, because the two brothers were having a major fist fight over the fact that Trey tried to rape Marissa. Hey, the guy left his gun lying around. What did he think would happen?!?) Love it. Even considering the whole aforementioned unrealisism of the show, it is totally addictive. Kind of like my friends obsession with ‘Smallville’. (Seriously, that is THE worst show on TV- actually, it’s runner-up to Australian Princess) It makes no sense.

Major news. If someone –please, Coles Myer, please- takes it into their head to employ me and I consequently raise subsequent funds, I am able to go to Japan for three months in term four of this year. It would be to the same school that I visited oh so briefly last September and I would do homestay and attend the school for a whole term.

Mum and Dad have said yes, so now I just have to get a job and save up $2000. That is a really big number when you think about it. I SOO badly want to go. Coz you’re not really meant to go in 11 or 12 coz it messes with your senior stuff.
Okay, I really should go now.

:-) Bye :-)

This is seriously freaking me out.

by admin on January 23, 2006

Hi

My sauces (both tomato and BBQ) have informed me that the posts I have been trying to put on here these last few weeks have FINALLY worked, so HOPEFULLY this one’ll actually work right away.

Anyway, today is a bizarre day for me.

Today is the day the primary schools and the year eights and elevens go back to school. So, today I went along for the ride to drop off both of my younger brothers (one to primary school –year seven- and the other to high school –year eight). Then I went to help Mum at the office.

This isn’t going to make any sense, but bear with me here. I’m not in going to school mode, but my brothers are at school. It feels like I should be sick, but I’m not in going to school mode or doing homework, or vomiting either for that matter. And even though I’m not in going to school mode, I sort of am, because I feel like I should be at school. Maybe I’m wagging and don’t realise it.

I told you that wouldn’t make any sense. Now I’ve confused myself.

Another weird thing. I’m the only kid in the street at home. That I know of. Seriously. We have two year elevens, four year eights, four primary schoolers. There’s the six month old next door, but I think even she’s at creche. I am all alone.

I really need to quit being so melodramatic.

To change the subject, I have nearly finished Great Expectations by Charles Dickens!! I feel so proud.

Ooh, yesterday we saw Nanny McPhee it was so good. I would like to express my thanks to my dad for figuring out what that little boy was off. It was really bugging me. Seriously, go see it.

I don’t know what else to say, so

Toodaloo

No school = boring????

by admin on January 18, 2006

Hello!!

So. I’m not entirely confident this blog’ll end up on the page, because they’ve been being pooey lately, and won’t let me post stuff.

Anyway. My cousin who lives in Maroochydoore (Sunshine Coast, 2 ½ hours drive north) came down to stay for a few days. That was fun, we went shopping, went shopping again, made ice-cream and ate ice-cream. It was Toblerone ice-cream too, so it was amazing. Mum usually only makes it for Christmas. VERY delicious.

I’m actually looking forward to going back to school on Tuesday, believe it or not. Home is getting really boring.

My brothers are amusing themselves- Harry’s been watching sports on TV continually and Jack has been building some sort of catapult, designed specifically for tennis balls and water bombs. I think I might stay away from that. It sounds quite painful.

I’m getting my hair cut tomorrow and my eyeballs checked on Monday, when the suckers (J and H, as mentioned above) are back at school. Other than that, I have nothing planned as yet.

I’m sure I’ll find something.

Like I’ve been finding stuff today, such as writing this and putting away my cousin’s mattress. Which as yet, I haven’t actually done, but I’ll get onto it in just a bit. Maybe. Actually, more than likely I’ll step over it for a week or so and put it away when someone comes to stay. Hey, it’s good to be honest.

In other news we have new neighbours. And they have a GIRL ONLY A YEAR OR TWO YOUNGER THAN ME. I mean there are two other girls that I know in my street, but when Mum decides to have a BBQ and invite the neighbours neither of them come. So I end up getting tackled by the little jerks across the road.

Sorry, that was a little bit of a speel. And I’m not sure that that (deal with it) would have made sense to anyone but me. But whatever.

A lorikeet just bounced off Mum and Dad’s bedroom window. Harry thought it was dead (via Missy, our cat) until Jack pointed out that there were no Missy-like gouges and it was not only blinking but also breathing.

After it regained consciousness, it got up and flew away. The fact that it is not the first, nor will it be the last lorikeet to smash itself headlong into that particular window makes me think that lorikeets are really not all that intelligent. Pretty, but dumb.

I’d better go put that mattress away, or rather avoid putting it away.

Tata.

Holidays

by admin on January 15, 2006

Hey,

I’m not sure what’s going on here cause I accidentally published that last blog twice, and now the computers being pooey and won’t let me delete it. But whatever.

I think my mum loves me again, because I now have books, pens and shoes. Though as my dad keeps saying, there is something of a legal and moral obligation. I prefer to think my mum loves me.

Hey, it pays to hope. (Mum, if you’re reading this, relax, I’m kidding).

So, today. Thus far I have read four chapters of ‘Great Expectations’ (I’m up to number nineteen out of fifty five. I’m dead.), made two batches of brownies, gone for a swim and eaten some of said brownie. And I also went with Mum down to the local shops and bought plain label lemonade, plain label cream and a tomato.
Yay.

How exciting.

My cousin from the Sunshine Coast is coming down today. She’s staying for a few days, which will be fun. I’ve been so bored these last few days, NOTHING to do. I’m getting bored of lazing around doing nothing. In that sense, I’m looking forward to this term. But I was already, because I reckon English will be really good this term. (Mainly because I will no longer be in a class with Year 10’s- I swear they are the most stupid people on the face of this Earth.)

So.

I think I might have to go eat some brownie.

C U later.

La la

Hello

To continue on from my last post, I have now seen the six hour BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. It was very good. Mum and I had a ‘girls weekend’ cause my brothers and Dad went away camping at Mt Warning. Unfortunately it rained so they came home a day early, but at least we saw the whole film. It was quite an effort, we’ve decided, watching the whole thing in one day.

Nothing much has been going on lately. I’ve swam lots, and had a friend to stay the night. That was fun. We went down to the Supre warehouse. It’s a gigantic factory outlet type thing, with all the end of season clothes. Only thing is, you have to go through so many bad or miniscule clothes to get to anything nice that actually fits, so it does take a while. I got two nice tops, for $5 each. I’m wearing one now and it’s really cool (weather wise).

I can’t believe next week is the last week of the summer holidays. It’s truly tragic. I still need to get books, pens, shoes (I don’t have any black ones) and my fees done. I think it’s my mums way of showing affection, cause both my brothers have all their stuff. I’m in year 10. Double digits. Yay. Can’t wait.

I wonder if any of my classes will be air- conned? I have Home Ec, so that will be, at least on the days that we’re cooking. WHY DIDN’T I CHOSE TO BE IN AIR CONDITIONED COMPUTER ROOMS IN THE HOT MONTHS???? I am an idiot.

Don’t know what else to say, so bye.

Hi Diddily Ho Neighborino’s

by admin on January 6, 2006

I haven’t posted anything for a bit, so I’ve decided to make random lists about nothing in particular. Here goes:

Things that bug me

1. When old people call me Lauren. Or young people too for that matter.

2. When people call me Blondie. Hello, I have a NAME.

3. When the great storm the news people have been predicting turns out to be wussy.

4. When I’m at the end of a really good mystery (Go Nancy Drew) and JUST BEFORE we find out who dunnit the book ENDS, because the last chapter had fallen out.

Things I suck at

1. Diving. I’ve been trying to learn, but it hurts!!!

2. Catching stuff. This is only really a problem in PE, because other than that, my friends know I’ll just drop it, so they don’t throw things to me. But PE you sort of have to catch it.

3. Anything Manual Art-sy. I swear the sander thingy is out to get me.

4. Drawing. Scratch that, anything artistic. In all my almost 15 years on this earth, I have only produced one piece of art work I am not in the least ashamed of. I’m the girl, who, when she’s in art class trying to make a teapot out of clay, the teacher (admittedly very nicely, but still) suggests I might like to make an abstract, half collapsed looking teapot on purpose, because the whole nicely modeled thing wasn’t really working out for me.

I’ve seen loads of movies lately, so I figured I may as well talk about them

Movies I’ve seen lately and whether I thought they were good or bad:

1. Pride and Prejudice The recent one that is, with Kiera Knightly. Really good. Now I want to see that five hour BBC one. 7/10

2. A Cinderella Story I’ve seen it before but I just got the DVD. Love it. The ultimate fairy tale. What more can you say. 9/10

3. Chicken Little Surprisingly funny. Worth the movie ticket, though it’d be better on DVD, so you don’t get running commentary from the little kids surrounding you. It’s kinda sad though, at the start with the whole ‘My dad is totally embarrassed to have a kid like me because of the whole the sky is falling incident.’ But still totally cute. 7 ¾ /10

4. Ice Princess I only saw this yesterday, but it was pretty good. It’s worth seeing if only for the skating. 7/10
5. Pirates of the Caribbean Okay, granted, I’ve only seen a little bit, but it looks really cool. 4/10 (to be revised after I’ve seen more than just the first ten minutes)

6. Fun with Dick and Jane Pretty average. It reminded me a bit of The Italian Job with the whole your supposed to go for the baddies except there was no awesome car chase. Just to reinforce something to someone, the seating was entirely coincidental. So get over it. 6/10

7. The Lion King In an attempt to stop my friends going on about my deprived upbringing, because I hadn’t seen this film, I rented it and it was SO GOOD. I love the opening bit. So amazing. Also it helped me to understand a friends play I saw while in Japan. Like I know that it was Mofassa or something that got killed with a light saber. In the play, not the film. 9 ¾ /10

8. The Perfect Man I got this out because it looked good, but it wasn’t really all that great. It reminded me of New York Minute with the Olsen twins because it was just so totally unrealistic. Still it had it’s moments. 6/10
9. Harry Potter 4 Cool. Really cool. But it sucked that they had to cut so much out. They should do a long version, with all the good bits from the book in there, like P&P. 9 ½ /10

Books I’ve read lately and whether I thought they were good or bad

1. Flowers in the Attic by Virginia Andrews. Really sick. That’s one woman with a twisted mind. The basis for this book (and it’s sequels) is incest (brother and sister for the most part) and locking children in an attic for four years to get an inheritance. Add some rat poison, freakishly religious grandparents, betrayal, revenge, a few fatal house fires and a restored mansion, and you have some traumatized kids and a scarily fixating book.

2. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin. Really good. I loved it. As far as chick flicks go, well sorry A Cinderella Story.

3. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I’ve only read a few chapters, but it’s not really that exciting. Shame I’ve gotta read it for school next term. Here’s to hoping it picks up.

4. Legally Blonde by Amanda Brown. Why anyone even bothered to make this into a movie I’ll never know. I loved the movie and Elle and even Bruiser, but honestly, in this book, Elle is a major cow who seems to think she’s superior to every one else. The only reason she does well is because of class notes her secret admirer (why does he like her? She once went out of her way to totally mortify him) leaves her. Crap book, fantabulous movie. Go figure.

5. Blue by Sue Mayfield. It’s a really sad book about a girl (Anna) who tries to kill herself because of the popular girl (Hayley) bullying her. It’s interesting though, because you jump between Anna’s mum at the hospital reading her journal and Mel, Anna’s friend who’s torn between Hayley and Anna, telling the story from her perspective. So Anna’s getting her stomach pumped at the hospital and next chapter she’s playing tennis with Hayley. Anyway, it’s really good.

I can’t think of any other books I’ve read lately, so I might go now.

Bye bye.
